Ever heard about? Or seen a Kermodei? It took me five years, roaming the forests north of Terrace and driving along the Cassiar highway before I met my first Kermodei! It was in spring 2006...But that same year in the fall, back from my travellings in Spitsberbgen and Greenland, I heard from friends that this bear had been killed by crazy people!
This gives me the energy and courage to start a great project: opening in 2010 THE BEAR RIVER INTERPRETIVE CENTRE in STEWART BC!

The BEAR FRIENDS open in MAY 2010 THE BEAR RIVER INTERPRETIVE CENTRE.
Visitors will get information on black bears, grizzlies and polar bears. Educational programs -lectures, displays and videos- will offer the visitors informations on bear/man interactions, accurate data on both brown (grizzly) and black bear populations and their ecosystem.
Field work will be completed, thereby helping a better understanding of bear ecology .

BLACK BEARS are not only found in the boreal forest, many a time they roam our towns and villages, in search of food....

THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL!
POLAR BEARS are under particular stress: the ice sheet is melting, making the access to food more difficult. Chemical pollution has already impacted bears fertility. Hunting is still an option in many countries.BEAR FRIENDS will extend its work in Sub Arctic and Arctic regions through Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Norway, Russia.
BEAR FRIENDS will be on a “road show” through these territories, lecturing in schools, community halls, and other places where people will take benefit of a better knowledge on bears and their ecosystems.
